"Coming to Ireland has been a great experience. I love the children I am working with and I have decided to stay in Ireland and go to college here. Cara International has helped to make my stay very enjoyable."

What is expected of the Au Pair?

The Au Pair should be willing to share with the host family, especially the children, what life is like in his/her country. Even teaching the children a bit of the language is encouraged. Children typically respond well to this type of interaction, and it helps them to learn about different languages and cultures around the world.

Au Pairs are expected to work up to 36 hours per week (including 1 - 2 evenings babysitting). This is expected to be per the host family's working schedule. There is a requirement for a full 2 days off during the week. (Generally the Au Pair will take this time off during the weekend). The Au Pair does not receive a salary. Instead s/he is given pocket money by the host family of approximately € 75 to € 100 per week. The Au Pair generally pays for his/her travel expenses to and from the Host Family.

Childcare is defined by the parents and may include diaper changing, bathing, dressing, and transportation to and from school, feeding, playing and general interaction. Light housework. This means the Au Pair keeps his/her personal space neat and tidy and helps to keep playroom and kitchen areas tidy. He/she can also cook light meals for the children.
